Machinists Union is the certified bargaining agent for 120,000 workers under
more than 200 bargaining agreements covering airlines, railroads and
transportation servicing companies in the United States making it the largest air & rail union in North America.

The IAM is affiliated with the AFL-CIO; Canadian Labour Congress (CLC); Railway Labor Executives’ Association; International Labor Organization; International Metalworkers Federation and the International Transport Workers Federation.
Organizational Structure: Workers belong to one of 1,056 IAM Local Lodges that typically represent employees at one or more local companies. In the Transportation sector, District Lodges represent workers nationwide on specific airlines and/or classifications. There are four IAM airline District Lodges and one Railroad District Lodge in the United States and one airline District Lodge in Canada. The District Lodges negotiate and administer the agreements with the carriers under their jurisdiction.
Six territorial General Vice Presidents oversee IAM activities is specific territories: Canada; in the Eastern, Midwestern; Southern and Western U.S. states , and IAM Headquarters. A Vice President for Transportation oversees the air transport and rail sectors nationwide. The General Vice Presidents, the International President and the IAM General Secretary-Treasurer constitute the IAM Executive Council, the top leadership body of the union.
